A Guide to Oregon's New Reading Standards K-6 is a resource for teachers who are committed to improving student achievement in reading. A joint effort of the Multnomah ESD and Portland State University’s Center for Student Success this guide is designed to assist educators in teaching the skills required for 21st Century student success.
This guide provides foundational knowledge (based on 2005-2006 standards) on topic areas such as:
- Vocabulary
- Reading to perform a task
- Informational and literary text: Demonstrate general understanding
- Informational and literary text: Develop an interpretation
- Informational and literary text: Examine content and structure
As well as an array of tools:
- Teaching aids
- Assessments
- Sample test questions
- Classroom applications
- K-2 grade-level foundations
To supplement the A Guide to Oregon's New Reading Standards K-6 the Center for Student Success provides professional development for elementary teachers.
