EPFA 410/510 Building Intercultural Capacity for Educators

credits)
Through a process of self reflection, collaborative inquiry, and critical
discourse, participants will strengthen their capacity to work effectively
with diverse students, families, and communities. This course will examine
multiple theoretical approaches for understanding the dynamics that emerge
in cross cultural relationships, and provide effective strategies for
intercultural communication, conflict resolution, coalition building,
and advocacy. The course will pay particular attention to understanding
power, privilege, and oppression and its impact on teaching and learning.
Using storytelling, personal narratives, and case examples, participants
will explore the emotional potency inherent in cross cultural work, and
develop skills for managing stress, minimizing anxiety, and maintaining
hope.
CI 410/510 Intercultural Curriculum
(3 credits)
In this course, participants will learn to develop inclusive curriculum.
The course will pay particular attention to assessment of barriers to
learning, including biases in the curriculum and tests. Participants will
learn to research the cultural context of their learners and the learning
environment, and to adapt, differentiate, creatively problem solve in
order to achieve success for all learners.
EPFA 410/510 Leadership and Organizational Structures for Intercultural
Education
(3 credits)
In this course, participants will develop and balance their personal leadership
skills so that they can support themselves, their learners and their educational
community in effective teaching and learning across cultures. The course
will pay particular attention to the assessment of organizational structures
that impede or support all learners and their families.
EPFA 410/510 Change Agentry for Intercultural Education
(3 credits)
In this course, participants will examine the theories of change, change
agentry and their applicability to intercultural transformation in education
settings. The course will pay particular attention to understanding roles,
essential steps, collaboration and partnership, conflict resolution, and
dealing with resistance.
