This new program will meet an increasing demand in schools for teachers at the middle and high school level who are ready to accommodate the needs of diverse students within their inclusive classrooms. This need has become even more pressing under the definition of highly qualified teachers as defined by the federal legislation No Child Left Behind Law. Graduates of this program will be highly qualified to teach in 21st century classrooms. The program's emphasis in teacher leadership and collaboration will result in graduates prepared to take on leadership roles in the development of innovative collaborative instructional models.
This full time graduate-level teacher education program will run for six consecutive terms starting January 2006 culminating in a Masters in Education and dual licensure in a secondary content area and special education in Spring 2007.
