Infant/Toddler Mental Health: A Relationship-Based Approach
ECMH Consortium

This certificate program was designed by the Curriculum Advisory Committee of Oregon's Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) Consortium. The Northwest Early Childhood Institute has been integral to the establishment of this program.

The ECMH Consortium is an interprofessional education, training, research, and practice improvement entity aimed at improving the abilities of families, of those who work with very young children, and of other partners to support and strengthen the emotional and relational development of children birth through preschool. As a key member, the work of the Northwest Early Childhood Institute is essential to consortium efforts. It effectively engages the pediatric and public health communities to ensure their partnership with the social service, education, and mental health communities in addressing psychosocial development from a holistic perspective.

The following principles guide all consortium endeavors to ensure the healthy social and emotional development of all infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

  • Interprofessional partnerships
  • Community-based services
  • Interagency collaboration
  • Individualized strengths-based care
  • Cultural competence
  • Child and family involvement
  • Inclusive of cutting-edge research, science, and practice
