The certificate program in Couples, Marriage, and Family Counseling is available in two forms: a for-credit academic Graduate Certificate and a noncredit Certificate of Completion.
The
Portland State University Graduate Certificate
A graduate certificate program is a linked series
of approved graduate-level courses, which constitute a coherent body of study
with a specific, defined focus within a discipline. It is designed for a postbaccalaureate
participant and reflects the educational mission of the University. Courses and
certificates completed are transcripted by the registrar as a part of the
student's permanent university record.
Advantages:
- An opportunity
to continue your education in a way that demonstrates your initiative and interest
to employers and increases your knowledge
- Graduate-level sequence of classes which organizes knowledge and information relevant to
one aspect of a discipline
- Successful performance in a Graduate Certificate program can be applied to a master's degree program in the same discipline
A student must be formally admitted to the Graduate Certificate program.
Certificate
of Completion
A Certificate of Completion is awarded to all who successfully
complete the program in Addictions Counseling as a noncredit student. This certificate
reflects the total contact hours for continuing
education credit of 180 hours. In addition, students needing to document their
participation on a course-by-course basis can receive a certificate of completion
for each individual course they successfully complete.
Certification
Information (CEUs and Licensure)
Thirty
contact hours are available for each course. Participants can receive a certificate
of completion for each course completed or NBCC clock-hour verification. CEUs
may be used toward Oregon and Washington counseling or social work licensure.
They may also be appropriate for meeting Oregon psychology
continuing education requirements.
