ECTC produces and manages several conferences each year throughout the region. Head Start staff members attend these conferences to obtain in depth training on a variety of subjects, to share ideas and practices with colleagues, and, in some instances, to obtain college credit. In addition, ECTC also offers Conference Services Events for some non-Head Start organizations.

Essential Motivational Interviewing Strategies: Applications in Diverse Settings
A 3-Day Motivational Interviewing training with individualized focus on diverse practice settings

May 8-10, 2006 9am - 4pm daily
University Place, Portland Oregon

This dynamic training event is designed for professionals in any setting who are working with people to change behavior. Participants will learn motivational interviewing as an approach to facilitating change, and its underlying principles. One day will focus on how to effectively adapt these concepts to the context of one's work setting and role; including issues of complimentary service philosophies and approaches, program goals, cultural congruence, and sequencing of services. The training will include experienced motivational interviewing practitioners and facilitators who have worked in a variety of human services and health care settings.

The following breakout sessions will be offered to allow participants to focus on specific practice setting applications

  • Curriculum-based motivation group approach
  • Domestic violence
  • Community and health services/community action
  • Child and family support services/home visiting
  • Mental health
  • Addictions
  • Community corrections
