Susan Baker, MA, has 35 years experience in the Tigard-Tualatin School District at the middle level and in the district Curriculum and Instruction Department. She has worked in inclusive classrooms, led the creation of the district's first middle school TAG program, and taught both TAG and corrective reading classes. She also coordinated the full academic program for all students in her 300-student school-within-a-school.
Erin Bernardi, MS, has worked as an elementary educator specializing in the areas of assessment, talented and gifted education, and working with at-risk populations, since 1995. Ms. Bernardi has served on the board of OATAG and on Western Oregon University's TAG Regional Planning Group. She has been actively involved in curriculum and staff development at a district, regional and state level. She has presented at workshops focusing on assessment, differentiation, and behavior management. She received the National Science Foundation's Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 1999 and again in 2000.
Susan Carter, MAT, has worked in education administration and taught grades K-6 for more than 25 years in both public and private schools. She has presented many language arts, science, and math workshops and has taught graduate-level classes for teachers. She was the gifted education coordinator in the West Linn School District, a Distinguished Oregon Educator, director of curriculum in Molalla River School District, a principal in Beaverton School District, and an interim head of an independent private school. Ms. Carter has also worked for the Northwest Evaluation Association as a client enrollment specialist.
Barbara Fowler, MA, worked for the Lincoln County School District for 31 years as a seventh grade Language Arts/Social Science teacher, third grade classroom teacher, and Gifted Program Resource Teacher and Coordinator. Ms. Fowler work spans many arenas, including: making a SAGE video on instructional and management strategies for gifted learners for the National Diffusion Network, co-presenting "Playing With a Full Deck-52 Teaching Strategies to Take the Lid Off Learning" at the Spring 1992 National ASCD convention, providing multiple trainings for Lincoln County School District focusing on "Instructional Strategies-Bringing Out the Best In All Students," and co-presenting for the McMinnville School District. Ms Fowler served on the team that reviewed the TAG Complaint Investigation for Salem-Keiser School District, wrote and was awarded a 21st Century Grant from ODE, and received a Vision Award from an "Apple for the Teacher" contest from Cable in the Classroom. She is very interested in using technology to provide professional development for teachers and in how we prepare our children to live and work in this era of technological growth.
Karen Harger, MS, has over 20 years of experience working with diverse populations of students, including those in ELL, talented and gifted, special education, and general education programs. Ms. Harger is a key trainer for both the Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) and Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) models and has presented at numerous regional and national conferences. Currently, Ms. Harger teaches fifth grade at Vose Elementary in the Beaverton School District.
Aeylin Summers, EdD, is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, K-12, in the Gresham-Barlow School District. In her 25 years as an educator, Dr. Summers has had extensive training and application in curriculum, instruction, and assessment as a secondary English teacher and as a principal at the middle and high school levels. She has taught classroom and online courses as an adjunct professor for Concordia University, Clackamas Community College, and Portland State University.
