Participants attending the National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect may earn one, two or three undergraduate (CI 410) or graduate (CI 810) credits at Portland State University. In order to receive credit, participants must attend two or more full days of the conference.

1 credit = 10 hours of attendance in conference sessions - $65
2 credits = 20 hours of attendance in conference sessions - $125
3 credits = 35 hours of attendance in conference sessions - $185
(3 credit option will require attending the entire conference and pre-conference)

Assignments

1 Credit
Write a critical reflection of each workshop, seminar and keynote attended. For each, please:

  1. Include the title of each session, date, time spent in the session (total hours), and presenter information.
  2. Describe the content of the session and how the session or techniques learned impacted your understanding of the topics presented.
  3. Critical reflections must be typed. For each workshop, you should write one to two paragraphs. The final document should be two to three pages.
  4. For graduate credit, complete a-c (above) and go into more depth on each concept or technique. Your paper should be typed and a minimum of three to four pages.

2 Credits
Complete the above assignment for one credit. Also:
Write a critical reflection paper synthesizing the information learned at the conference.

  1. Be specific in citing how at least three concepts or techniques introduced at the sessions supported or challenged your previous knowledge or assumptions. You may want to use some of the issues or concepts mentioned in the assignment for one credit.
  2. Raise questions you have that will require further inquiry.
  3. This paper must be typed and should be a minimum of three to four pages.
  4. For graduate credit, complete a-c, and item (d) from the one graduate credit above. Also, identify one or more goals that you plan to work toward in your classroom, school, or work setting. Describe how you plan to implement this goal, if possible. The paper should be 4-5 pages.

3 Credits

  1. Complete items a-c in the above assignments for one and two credits.
  2. Complete an additional reading (journal, book). Write a short reflection on how this information provided an additional perspective, and how you will use this toward developing or changing policy on critical issues in your work or industry.
  3. For graduate credit, complete items (d) from the assignments for one and two credits. Also complete two additional readings (journal, book). Write a short reflection paper on how the outside readings provided an additional perspective, and how you will use this toward developing or changing policy on critical issues in your work or industry.
